 02-08-1925 Asten      20-02-1945 Neuengamme (19)
- Weert - People in hiding -

Asten, the birthplace of Peter van Eijk, is located in North Brabant, 25 km north of Weert, where he worked as a metalworker during the German occupation. When he was called up for forced labor in Germany, he decided to go into hiding. However, he was discovered and arrested on August 17, 1944. After an imprisonment of some weeks in the Amersfoort camp, he was deported to the large Neuengamme concentration camp near Hamburg. There he succumbed to the extreme conditions on February 20, 1945, in the main camp. Peter was only 19 years old.
