Jan Ubachs

 07-09-1920 Maastricht      10-02-1945 Mauthausen Gusen (24)
- Maastricht - Forced Labor -

Jan Ubachs from Maastricht was sent to work in Germany on Oct. 8. [1]
So far we have no data on it, whether he resisted or how it went on after his deportation, only that he died in Gusen. The Gusen concentration camp in Upper Austria consisted in fact of three camps, belonging to the Mauthausen camp system.
During the five years of their existence, about 60,000 to more than 70,000 prisoners from all over Europe were deported to the Gusen camp system, half of whom, about 35,000, died as a result of the cruel living conditions and hard work in the quarries and arms industry. [2 DE]
