Cammaert writes: Sittard. Was part of the Bongaerts group. He helped prisoners of war and Allied airmen. Fell into German captivity as a result of provocation by H.W. Vastenhout, but survived the war. [1.1]

Early on, the fire chief of Heerlen, Charles Bongaerts, had started a resistance group. In the fourth chapter, Cammaert writes: In the fire department, Bongaerts encountered support from G.L. Couwenbergh and A. Jeninga, in the mines and in the mining police from W.H. van Keulen,, H.H. Tobben, P.G. Gulikers (Sittard), S. Vroomen, A. Vestering (Sittard), H. Jongen and J. Outjers [1.2]

On wikimiddenbrabant.nl we read: On August 6, Tobben, Van Oijen and Paul Gulikers, also a resistance man, travel with four pilots to Apeldoorn. From a transit house, the pilots were then taken to England. Tobben and Gulikers would also go with them to England. Van Oijen is asked to return to Tilburg; later, when Harrie goes to England, she could say goodbye to him. Upon arrival at the transit house, however, Tobben, Gulikers and the four pilots are arrested by the Sipo, and shortly thereafter the entire Bongaerts group falls into German hands. A few days after the return of Jet Van Oijen to Tilburg, V-man Vastenhout comes to tell her that Tobben and Gulikers have meanwhile left for England. Because Van Oijen is not immediately arrested, the Germans can continue their infiltration into the pilot lines for the time being. [2]
