Alphons Marie Lambert Omloo was called Fons. [1]
On February 8, 1944, J.H. Scheeres, who was in hiding, was arrested. He was apparently in possession of a note from H.J. Holla, who was in Venlo the local contact person for the people in hiding of the L.O in the Catholic parish of Heilig Hart, St. Heart. Scheeres seemed to know more about the L.O. in Venlo. Police chief Couperus called in the SiPo. Scheeres gave Nitsch a number of names, including that of the parish priest A.M.L. Omloo. On Tuesday, February 29, the SiPo took action and arrested Holla, Reverend Omloo, the couriers A.R. Berger and F.G.M.J. Coehorst, several other L.O. workers and a number of people in hiding. [2]
Reverend Omloo was arrested in the rectory, as was the aforementioned Fons Berger, who had gone into hiding with him. All those arrested were taken to the Café National in the Spoorstraat, the SD’s prisoner collection point. [2]
Fons Omloo had to endure long interrogations and thrashings. He was released from the Amersfoort concentration camp in July 1944. [3]
His last position was as dean at St. Martin’s Church in Weert, where he was also buried. [1]
He was an officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau and an honorary citizen of the city of Weert. [1]
