The fallen resistance people in Limburg
Hein Horstmann was born in Börger, Germany, about 50 km from Emmen in the Netherlands. He and his wife Klazina Koelman came to Kerkrade from Emmen on December 15, 1925. [1#3]
As a miner at the Domaniale Mijn he participated in the mine strike and was arrested there. When transferred from prison to the courtroom on 4 May 1943, he tried to escape, but was hit by a bullet in his arm. On order from the commanding officer, he was shot dead in the street immediately afterwards. [2.1]
On wo2slachtoffers.nl we read: On his way to the Maastricht court, Horstmann fled out of a group of about a hundred arrested miners. [2.2]
In the article Als de mijnwerkers staken tegen de Duitse bezetter (When the miners went on strike against the German occupiers) we read:
In Kerkrade later Henderich Horstmann was arrested. He is said to have played a role in the resistance (communist?) as Hein. His arrest may well have been targeted. [3]
Lies in the General Protestant Cemetery at Kaalheide, grave 4-86. [1#2]
Henderich ( Hein ) Horstmann is listed in the Erelijst 1940-1945 (Honor Roll of the Dutch Parliament). [4]
