He spent his youth in Zutphen, his places of residence in South Limburg were Brunssum and Hoensbroek (from 1931). According to the biography on heemkundehoensbroek.nl, he was a gardener during the war and worked for the Koninklijke Nederlandse Heidemaatschappij, or Heidemij for short. In the card index of the CPN he is listed as a miner. He worked for De Vonk. [2]
This was both a CPN party newspaper and a resistance group.
Arrested on February 5, 1941 in Hoensbroek. Reported by Z. van den Berg. At the same time about 15 communist and socialist oriented former Spain fighters were arrested. He was released on June 14, 1941. [3.1]
On June 24/25, 1941, a few days after the invasion of the Soviet Union by German troops, [4] a wave of arrests of communists followed throughout Limburg, especially in the south of the province. [3.2]
He died in the Neuengamme concentration camp. There he had the camp number 06725. [5]
He is listed in the “Erelijst 1940-1945” (Honor Roll of the Dutch Parliament). [6]
