1st candle: The forgotten Holocaust

Bluma Meinhardt and Roger Moreno

For the exhibition The Forgotten Holocaust in the library of Valkenburg, the compilers wrote:

A triptych.
1. The persecution of Jewish Valkenburgers.
2. The deportation of Sinti and other Romani.
3. I don’t talk about that.
We commemorate these victims in 42 stumbling stones.

Roger Moreno wrote the story, unknown to most of us, about the persecution of his people the Sinti and Roma. Later, Anjes Driessen opened our eyes with her story “Daar praat ik niet over” (I don’t talk about that) of her mother Mädie Franz, who survived Auschwitz as a 17-year-old girl.
Hence this triptych this exhibition. To keep remembering and never to forget.
