Piet Cohen and Philip Soesan

Piet Cohen and Philip Soesan took part in the festivities around Valkenburg 80 Years Liberated on September 13, 2024, including the candle ceremony in the parish church of Houthem in memory of the victims of the Holocaust. The Cohen children were brought to IJzeren by the L.O. courier Pauline Delahaye.

Piet Cohen. Above: my oldest brother Jaap and I and Betje in the front row. Two additions: Jaap ended up in Friesland and Rachel in northern Limburg. My father came to pick me up from IJzeren immediately after the liberation on September 17. He found me based on the top photo which he had received from the resistance.
Amsterdam, June 2019, Piet Cohen.

Philip Soesan was taken from Amsterdam to Broekhem by the resistance and survived the war with the van Bergen family.
“My second hiding address was in Valkenburg with the Van Bergen family on Kloosterweg, the last house before the big Jesuit convent. Mrs. Van Bergen (I called her Mom) was also a sister of my aunt Louise. I lived there until early 1946 and I have fond memories of it. The family consisted of five people: Uncle Piet, “Mom”, the sons Father Hein, Alex and daughter Jetta.
It was she especially who took me under her wings and protected me even after the war.”
