During the Sept. 13, 2024, experience tour, a large U.S. Army jeep is parked on Reinald Street. Actor Ruud Coenen is standing in front of it, dressed in the uniform of an American soldier. He welcomes the children of Sibbe’s elementary school and introduces himself as Henry E. Morgan. In American English, he explains that he was born in Arkansas in 1918 and that he belongs to the 19th Infantry Regiment, which comes to liberate the country from the Germans. The children were then all allowed to sit in the jeep. They find it very interesting.
Els Diederen from Valkenburg who is standing below, then tells the story of Henri Morgan, who was standing there on Reinald Street with his comrades on September 17, 1944, when a grenade fell there and Henri was badly wounded and died in the house of Diederen family on Reinald Street 15.
Henri Morgan now lies buried in Henri Chapelle. In memory of him, the new road, which runs past Diederen’s house, is named for that fallen liberator: Henri Morgan Street.

It is a pity that so few children from other schools have walked that fascinating experience tour, because experience is impressioning and arouses lasting interest!
