After a year of preparation with the editors of four people, Els Diederen, Jos Smeets, Jan Schurgers and Jo van Aken a beautiful book emerged.
80 years of liberated Valkenburg 2024 with 80 untold stories.
Many elderly people were asked if they knew anything about themselves or their parents or grandparents. Stories were also spontaneously supplied by people who had heard of them. Many unexpected stories came to us. We were able to put together a very nice collection of these in our book.
Then we went out for the preregistration for the book. Sponsors were also approached. But that was a bit disappointing. Yet with the efforts of everyone on the editorial board we were able to have the book printed.
2000 books were printed.
Many people were surprised by the beautiful book we had put together.
People who had contributed to the book were offered a free book for their efforts and stories for the book.
The Adopters of the US Military Cemetery in Margraten were also offered a book at a special price. This for their tribute to the fallen US soldiers in 40/45 WWII.
There was also a book for a special price for the children who walked the adventure tour on September 13.
It is important for young people to remember what happened during wartime. Never to forget the importance of peace and freedom.
Het boek ligt nu bij verschillende verkooppunten om de resterende boeken aan de man/vrouw te brengen. We mogen met de redactie spreken van een geslaagde activiteit die voor altijd in onze herinnering kan blijven.
