Worked as an excavator operator in the Curfs limestone quarry in Geulhem. He and his wife, as well as many colleagues in the adjacent Curfs and Schunck quarries, helped people in hiding in the cave called the Diver’s Inn. On March 15, 1944, he had to go to Kaldenkirchen with 172 false IDs to get people out of the concentration camp there. After filling the truck in Sittard, something went wrong and the truck went up in flames, he was badly burned, but survived.
