The fallen resistance people in Limburg
Plaque with a part of the names of Dutch victims of AEL Spergau-Zöschen.
Willy van Mil was a miner underground. [1#4]
The mayor of Schaesberg wrote to the Dienst Identificatie en Berging (Identification and Recovery Service) on June 28, 1948:
… I have the honor to inform you that the person mentioned above was arrested by order of the German authorities and taken to Germany, where he died in captivity. [1#21]
Since he died in a so-called “labor education camp” (Arbeiterziehungslager or AEL in Zöschen), it can be assumed that he was caught trying to avoid forced labor in Germany, presumably because he had not been granted a miners’ exemption. Whether he also put up further resistance is not yet known to us.

Willy only turned 19.
Wilhelmus Hubertus ( Willy ) van Mil is listed in the Erelijst 1940-1945 (Honor Roll of the Dutch Parliament). [3]
