Sgt. Glyndwr Owens was on a bombing mission to the railway station in Mönchen-Gladbach with the Hampden AD937 when the aircraft was hit by the German night fighter [1] ace Lt. Reinhold Knacke (I./NJG1) [2] and crashed in Houthem around 1:20 am between Putweg and Curfsweg (Open Street Map). Three crew members, including Owens, were killed. After the war he was buried in the Commonwealth war cemetery, Jonkerbos.
On his grave is the inscription:
HYD DORIAD Y WAWR, TEIFI RHYS UNTIL THE BREAK OF DAWN. EIRWEN
