      Flight Sergeant (Wireless Operator/Air Gunner) / 61 Sqdn. Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Hemswell Air Base / Service Number 969973
      Son of Lily Wordsworth, Farrington Park, Preston (Lancashire).
      He was on a bombing mission to the railway station in Mönchen-Gladbach with the Hampden AD937 when the aircraft was hit by the German fighter pilot Lt. R. Knacke (I./NJG1) and crashed in Houthem around 1:20 am between Putweg and Curfsweg (Open Street Map). Three crew members, including R. Wordsworth, were killed. After the war he was buried in the Commonwealth war cemetery, Jonkerbos.
      On his grave is the inscription:
      DEARLY LOVED AND SADLY MISSED.
      MOTHER AND BROTHERS.
