During World War II, Jacob and Johanna Poels-Emonts took in dozens of Jews, hiders, prisoners of war, and Allied airmen on their farm, De Zwarte Plak [1], near Horst-America. Jakob died of a heart attack when he fled into the field during a raid on his farm. Johanna died shortly after the war. They were buried Nov. 15th, 2010 in the Loenen Cemetery of Honor [5] (newspaper article [6])
Jack Poels of Rowwen Hèze honored his grandparents on the album Station America (1993) with the song De Zwarte Plak. [2]
