Marinus Witvoet

Marinus Witvoet was a miner from Lutterade, gemeente Geleen, who worked for the communist party newspaper De Waarheid. Arrested in Geleen on March 24, 1944. [1]
He was imprisoned in the Amersfoort concentration camp until May 11, 1944. [2]
Deported to Remscheid (Germany), where he was registered as a forced laborer in the company health insurance fund of Deutsche Edelstahlwerke AG in Remscheid from May 13, 1944 to October 10, 1944. After that, he was allegedly "entlassen" (dismissed). [3]

Elsewhere, on a website that probably no longer exists, it says that he escaped twice. Unfortunately, this text can no longer be found. Perhaps the second escape was in Venlo, on a transport back to Germany.
rudi-harthoorn.nl continues: Killed on the run when the airfield was bombed
On October 28, the 2nd Tactical Air Force carried out two bombing raids on the Maas bridges. The city of Venlo was also hit hard. Marinus Witvoet was one of the 55+19=74 casualties. [4]
There is no mention of the German military airfield being bombed on this day.

De Waarheid of September 23, 1946 reports at the bottom left of the front page: For the first time a communist has a seat on the municipal council. Comrade Witvoet was elected with 344 votes. [5]
Since there were probably not very many communists with this surname in Geleen, we can assume that this was a relative.
Marius Witvoet was nominated for the CPN’s (Communistische Partij Nederland) Book of Honor for fallen communists. [6]
He was also nominated for the Honor Roll of the Fallen 1940-1945, but apparently without success so far. [7]
