Anna Maria Josepha Hamers (zuster Emaria)

 10-03-1921 Bocholtz      29-12-1945 Kerkrade (24)
- The clergy - Forced Labor - Bocholtz -

Anna Maria Josepha Hamers was the eldest daughter of the Hamers-Claessens family in Bocholtz.
As Sister Emaria, she had joined the Missionary Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit [1] (in Steyl and Baexem) in 1942. In 1944 she was forced to join the retreating Germans at the front to nurse German soldiers. After the end of the war, she returned to the Netherlands ill and was admitted to the hospital in Kerkrade.
This hospital had been founded by her congregation in 1914 and was still under their management at the time.
Her brother Jakob was also sent to Germany for forced labor (after refusal to work in the mine) and died not long after his liberation.
