Ben Antwerpen, who lived on the Cauberg, was one of the young men from Valkenburg who either had German citizenship or were stateless and therefore had to fight as conscripts in the German army. Ben too had German citizenship. According to the Volksbund, his date of death was February 12, 1944 and he died in the field hospital mot. 768 Christinowka. [2]
This name is also spelled as follows: Khrystynivka (Ukrainian Христинівка), Khrystynivka (English) or Christinovka (Russian Христиновка). [3]
Jan Diederen writes about him:
As an eighteen-year-old, he was forced to go to the Eastern Front, where he was severely wounded as a Gefreiter (private) and died on December 12, 1944 in the Christonovka field hospital south of Kiev in Ukraine. It is not known how he was wounded. He is buried in an unnamed grave at the military cemetery in Kiev, where his name is listed in the memorial book. [1.1]
