Gustav Latzke was born in Mauer Löwenberg, Lower Silesia. Information about him from an e-mail from the Stichting Oorlogsslachtoffers (War Victims Foundation). [1]
Today this village is in Poland and is called Pilchowice.
If the date of his death is correct, he did not die in hostilities, as there were none in our region in 1941. Nothing is known about a bombing raid either. We must therefore probably think of an accident or illness.
He was a Feldwebel (sergeant) when he died. [2]
Surprisingly, he was initially buried in in a monastery cemetery (Ravensbosch Oblate monastery). [1.2][3]
This would be much less surprising if he had fallen there in September 1944, during the liberation of Valkenburg. On December 21, 1949, he was reburied at the German military cemetery in Ysselsteyn near Venray. [1.2]
