Toon worked at the tax office in Venray. [1.1]
Het grote gebod (The Great Commandment): LO-Vierlingsbeek. Also: KP (Commando group). Arrested on 5.12.44 in Venlo, during a raid on the address where he was in hiding. [2]
Cammaert: On May 12, 1944, pilot helper A.L.J. Mooren from Vierlingsbeek was arrested at the Dael family home in Venlo. Several unsuccessful attempts were made to free him. A week later, the brothers Leo and Jan Dael were also arrested. Leo Dael was sent via Maastricht and Vught to Mauthausen, where he died on March 1, 1945; his brother and A. Mooren died in the same camp on March 9 and 5, 1945, respectively. [3]

brabantsegesneuvelden.nl: From Venlo, Toon was taken to the Amersfoort concentration camp, where the harsh regime and arbitrary maltreatment by the guards caused him great suffering. His situation improved when he was taken to the prison in Maastricht. The family sends him food and clean clothes; Toon hides notes in the dirty laundry to keep the family informed about what he is going through. After Maastricht, he is taken to the Vught concentration camp [4.1].
The SS evacuated the camp on September 5, 1944 [4.2] ("Mad Tuesday") because the Allies were approaching. Toon, like most of the male prisoners, was transported to Sachsenhausen north of Berlin and then on to Mauthausen in Austria.
Mauthausen was already notorious during the war years for its exceptionally cruel regime. [1]
